There's no denying that the rug is super plush, cozy and feels luxurious under your toes. But they can also harbor large amounts of dirt and grime if not cleaned properly. While a regular vacuum cleaner can remove surface dirt, it can't reach the deeper fibers, leaving a lot of nasty stuff behind.
Thankfully, industrial carpet cleaners are designed to do just that. These powerful machines can thoroughly clean and rejuvenate your carpets so that they not only look like new, but feel as well. Whether you just got your hands on an industrial cleaner like this and are wondering how to use it, or you're considering purchasing one, we can help. Here's everything you need to know.
Make sure the machine is in good condition
At Pivot Machinery, our industrial carpet cleaning machines are always in good condition, but accidents can still happen, especially during transportation. That's why we always recommend taking a few minutes to inspect your machine for any marks, dents, or other obvious issues before using it. Make sure there are no rattles, all fittings and attachments are in place, and the reservoir does not leak when not in use.
Dismantle furniture
Before using an industrial carpet cleaner, make sure the room where it will be used is clean. Move the furniture out of the way so you can access the entire carpet and clean it thoroughly, as you don't want any nooks or crannies to go untouched. If certain items need to stay in place, you can wrap them in plastic to protect them from moisture.
Use a regular vacuum cleaner first
Before using the machine, vacuum the problem carpet area with a regular vacuum. While industrial cleaning equipment is designed to penetrate deep into carpet fibers and remove built-up dirt, dust, and stains, it's easier to deal with the top layer of debris ahead of time. By vacuuming first, you remove any surface layer buildup so the industrial equipment can do what it was designed to do: thoroughly clean those deeper layers.
Prepare the cleaning solution (and test it first)
Carpet care solutions are designed to ensure the best results from every carpet cleaning job. Carefully premix the solution according to the instructions to make it more effective. Before using a cleaner for the job at hand, test it on a piece of carpet, preferably somewhere you can hide it. Cleaning solutions sometimes react differently to different carpets. That's why it's important to test it first. When applying, aim to wet the carpet without over-wetting it.
Pretreat stains
If you have children or pets, you may have some stains on your carpet. If your carpet needs some serious cleaning, it's a good idea to pre-treat any stains or high-traffic, dirtier areas first. Wait at least five to ten minutes before continuing the cleaning process.
Follow straight line technique
When you use an industrial carpet cleaner, be sure to work in straight lines, just like you would when mowing a lawn. This helps eliminate any confusion by clearly identifying which areas have been cleaned and which areas have not. Haphazard cleaning may leave missed patches, or you risk overly wet carpets. Make sure to vacuum at least twice with each wet pass. Pull and hold the trigger to spray water and move the wand back and forth in a straight line. Then, release the trigger and return to the same stripe a few times. Use slow, deliberate strokes. No need to push down or try to scrub...let the machine do it.
Give it time to dry
Carpets usually take three to five hours to dry after cleaning. Then, use a regular vacuum cleaner in the opposite way you would when cleaning (for example, use a straight horizontal line instead of vertically when applying the solution). This will speed up the remaining drying time. Only place furniture back on the carpet once it is completely dry. Blowers and fans can also be used to speed up drying time.
